The number of the beast.
CHAP. XIV.
An angel preacheth the everlasting gospel.

mies; and power was given unto him ‖‖ Or, to make war, to continue [1] forty and two months.

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, [2] and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

7 And it was given unto him [3] to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: [4] and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, [5] whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain [6] from the foundation of the world.

9 [7] If any man have an ear, let him hear.

10 [8] He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: [9] he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. [10] Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

11 And I beheld another beast [11] coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, [12] whose deadly wound was healed.

13 And [13] he doeth great wonders, [14] so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And [15] deceiveth them that dwell on the earth [16] by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, [17] and did live.

15 And he had power to give †† Gr. breath. life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, [18] and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, [19]† Gr. to give them. to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or [20] the name of the beast, [21] or the number of his name.

18 [22] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count [23] the number of the beast: [24] for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

CHAP.XIV.

1 The Lamb with his company standing on mount Sion; 6 an angel preacheth the gospel; 8 another proclaimeth the fall of Babylon; 9 and a third the punishment of them that worship the beast. 13 The blessedness of those that die in the Lord. 14 The harvest of the world. 17 The vintage and winepress of God's wrath.

AND I looked, and, lo, [25] a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him [26] an hundred forty and four thousand, [27] having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

2 And I heard a voice from heaven, [28] as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of [29] harpers harping with their harps:

3 And [30] they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song [31] but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

4 These are they which were not defiled with women; [32] for they are virgins. These are they [33] which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These †† Gr. were bought. [34] were redeemed from among men, [35] being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

5 And [36] in their mouth was found no guile: for [37] they are without fault before the throne of God.

6 And I saw another angel [38] fly in the midst of heaven, [39] having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, [40] and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

7 Saying with a loud voice, [41] Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: [42] and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

8 And there followed another angel, saying, [43] Babylon is fallen, is fallen, [44] that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, [45] If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

10 The same [46] shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is [47] poured out without mixture [48] into the cup of his indignation; and [49] he shall be tormented with [50] fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

11 And [51] the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

12 [52] Here is the patience of the saints: [53] here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
