LIFE OF SIR ROBERT PEEL.

to waste in bandying personalities with the honorable member," was all the notice he took of a good deal of abuse given him on a late occasion.

In private life there were few men more estimable than Sir Robert Peel. As a father, a husband, and a friend, he was such an one as England may well be proud of. His charities were without ostentation, and he was ever ready to alleviate the distresses of ill-requited genius.

Besides his widow, Sir Robert Peel has left seven children—five sons and two daughters. The eldest, Robert, has succeeded to the baronetcy, and has been elected member for Tamworth. Frederick represents Leominster. William is a captain in the navy. John Floyd Peel is an officer in the army. And the youngest son, Arthur Wellesley Peel, is still at college. Miss Peel married Viscount Villers a few years ago. Eliza, the youngest daughter, is unmarried. We cannot yet say how the vast property of the late baronet may be disposed of, but it will probably be divided among his children.
