LIP LIEBER, FRANCIS. A Manual of Political Ethics. 2 vols. 8vo. Boston. 1838-39. LILLY, JOHN. A Practical Register ; or, a general Abridgment of the Law, as now practiced in the Court of Chancery, K. B., C. P., and Exchequer. 2 vols. fol. London. 1745. "It might be too much to quote this book as an authority in matter of law; but, in a matter of practice, I think it is a sort of authority." Lord Redcsdale; 1 Sch. & Lef. 79; 1 Wils. 324. . Modern Entries ; being a Collection of Select Pleadings in the Courts of K. B., C. P., and Exchequer; trans- lated into English, with many additional References. 5th ed. 2 vols. 8vo. London. 1791. Lillj-'s is the only book of Entries and Writs that goes through the whole alphabet, publislied since the law proceedings have been in Eng- lish. Clarke. . The Practical Conveyancer ; containing Rules and Instructions for Drawing all sorts of Deeds for the Conveying of Estates and Interests, whether Real or Personal, in possession or expectancy. 3d ed. fol. London. 1742. The discriminative qualities of Lilly, are neatness and accuracy. The reader will not discover in the forms the boldness and freedom which he will have remarked in Bridgman, but they are equally and often more to be depended upon. Lilly appears to have been a man of judgment, and of sufficient legal knowledge, and to have possessed moreover the essential qualifications of care and circumspection. The precedents were printed under the author's own inspection. 1 Bart. Conv. 74 ; Williams' Study of the Law, 125. .
