The author is said to have written this Treatise when he had just attained the age of legal majority, which is truly a remarkable book for a young lawyer to have produced. The number of editions through which it has passed shows that it possesses more than ordinary merits, if other proofs were wanting. The volumes are admitted to contain a thorough, comprehensive, and learned discussion of the Law of Uses and Trusts, but " they want that fulness of illustration, and neat and orderly arrangement, requisite in the discussion of so abstruse and complicated a branch of the law."
