The first Part of the Glossary appeared in 1626, and extended from A. through the letter L. When the MS. was in part ready for the press, the author, not finding- a publisher, offered it to a London bookseller for £5, who declined the offer. Spelman then undertook to print the work at his own risk, but it was not very saleable, and the expense was too great for his fortune. He left the second Part incomplete, but, after some time, it was prepared for the press by Sir W. Dugdale, The latter part is written with less care than the former, and is not so much esteemed.
