BAC contains the results of many authors, not readily accessible. In the second edition he made pretty free use of Baldasseroni's Dictionary, which he frankly acknowledges in his preface. Soon after the publication of this work it was translated into French. The author complains, in a subsequent edition, of the unfaithfulness of this translation, which induced him to re-write and enlarge the work, which was published in French, under the title, Droit Maritime de VEu- rope. 2 torn. Svo. Paris. 1805. This treatise of Azuni's " relates rather to maritime international law, properly so called, than to private noaritime jurisprudence." The author's acquirements eminently qualified him for writing this work, distinguished alike for " various and exten- sive learning, sound judgment, and a liberal and philosophical spirit." It points out what is always of the highest importance to the diligent inquirer after truth, the sources of information upon maritime jurispru- dence. The English translation from the French, by William Johnson, 2 vols., 8vo., New York, 1806, is excellent, "and his notes show a familiarity and accurate acquaintance with legal and classical antiqui- ties."
