The second volume of Capital was prepared for publication and edited by Frederick Engels after the death of Karl Marx. The first German edition appeared in 1885. Engels also prepared the second German edition, which appeared in 1893.
The present edition is a reproduction of the English edition issued by Progress Publishers, Moscow. It follows the German edition of 1893, which was carefully checked with the manuscript as edited by Engels and now preserved at the Institute of Marxism-Leninism, Moscow. Misprints and inaccuracies in the text, in tables and bibliographical data, which appeared in the 1893 edition, have been corrected. All quotations from English and American authors have been checked with the originals.
An effort has been made to preserve the terminology as elaborated in the first English translation of Volume I, which was authorized by Engels. Extensive use has been made of the English translation of the second volume of Capital, published by Charles H. Kerr & Co., Chicago, 1909.
The book includes Engels' Prefaces to the first and second German editions, and is provided with name and subject indexes, in addition to an index of authorities quoted in the text.
