The following Act of Parliament received the assent of the President on the 10th August, 1971, and is hereby published for general information:-
THE MEDICAL TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY ACT, 1971
No. 34 OF 1971
An Act to provide for the termination of certain pregnancies by registered medical practitioners and for matters connected therewith or incident thereto
Be it enacted by Parliament in the Twenty-second Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
Short title, extent, and commencement 1. (1) This Act may be called the Medical Termination of Pregancy Act. 1971
(2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
