4?0 APPENDIX. tB. The dimensions o? this bird' are nearly the same as those of M. ',,.?tis: the bill only sli?tly differing in being some- wl?at higher, and more carinated. The above d?scriptions will point out the specific differences between the two birds, which are strongly apparent, not merely by the M. ? being marked with yellow where the other bird is white, but by the general distributiou of the colours. In this respect, M. j?o-c/?tas resembles more closely the true Or?, particularly in the yellow, fascia which. is formed on the wing, when closed by the junctio n.of the apical spots on the quill coverts. 8, RALLUS PmLXPPB](SIS, ;-i? ?ymt. i. ?J8, 7. ]*ftg. This bird was ;o'und 'upon Booby Island, near Cape York (the north ex?mitY oF New South Wales), and agrees with a specimen already in the Linnean Society's collection, that was taken in the neighbourbood or Port Jackson. My bird, being of smaller size than most oF those with which ! have compared it, is probably a young specimen. The Furous band on the breast is narrower than is usual in the st?ci?, originati? probably ?am the same circumstance: otherwise it agrees precisely. ? P 'A?oeuis was originally Found in the Philippine Islands. It appears to have a very extensive range, as it inhabits lands both in ?he North and South Pacific, as well as in the Indian Ocean. O.
