ANTHERICUM HOOKERI, or CHRYSOBACTRON HOOKERI, Hook. fil.

The first species of the present genus (C. Rossi) was detected by Dr. Hooker in Lord Auckland Islands. It was named Chrysobactron "in allusion to the magnificent racemes of golden flowers (staff of gold) which that species bears." C. Hookeri is a less showy species. (Bot. Mag.) It grows on Mount Egmont (Taranaki) and on the Canterbury Plains, Middle Island. It flowers in December.
