To excel in Epiſtolary Correſpondence is not only generally admitted to be highly requiſite, but a moſt valuable accompliſhment. Elegance in Writing, and Grammatical Knowledge of Language, are inſufficient to form a correſpondent; it is neceſſary that the ſtyle ſhould ſlaw with eaſe, elegance, and freedom, as we would deliver our ſentiments upon any ſubject, in a familiar converſation with our friends; occaſionally varying our manner according to the nature of the eaſe. With this view, and to facilitate this moſt elegant art, it is here endeavoured to preſent a variety of Letters, adapted to every ſtation and circumſtance in life; and it will be found upon peruſal, that the following Collection excel, in this reſpect, any former publication the kind.

To attain the art of eaſy and familiar correſpondence, it is abſolutely neceſſary to obſerve the following ineſtimable Rules.
