The' Testimonies of Dissenters' was addressed to Peter Dowley, a Dissenting minister at Cotesbach. Dowley printed a ' Letter' to Wells; Wells reprinted it with his 'Answer,' third ed., 1706; his 'Letter' to Dowlev had a wide circulation and was issued from two presses simul- taneously, fourth ed., Oxford. 1706. Jos. Pierce issued ' Remarks ' on Wells's letter to Dowley, 1711. Wells had "double duty," was too poor to afford an " assistant," and suffered from " bodily indisposition" in a " tender part" (' Testimonies,' p. 47).
