The CHARM of JAMIE

Young lovers, who're in love engag'd,
of your deceitful swains beware,
Left by delusions you're persuaded,
and bring yourselves into a snare.

For young men often prove deceitful,
though promises to you they'll make:
My love to me has prov'd ungrateful,
with grief and sorrow my heart will break.

How oft has my true love caress'd me,
and enfolded me in his arms!
And on my tender bosom preis'd me,
enjoying of each others charms.

And so blisses with sweet kisses,
my love and (illegible text) did oy and play:
But now my Jamie's gone and left me,
alas! alas! and well-a day.

I never thought he would prove cruel,
to go and leave me in dispair:
He was my joy and only jewel,
but few with him I could compare.
