Prometheus.
Children of Tethys, who hath given birth
To many, and involveth all the earth
With an unsleeping sea!
Daughters of old Oceanus,
Behold, look on me, how constrained thus,
By chains to this exalted rocky steep,
Sad vigil I must keep.
Chorus.
A cloud is o'er mine eyes,
A trembling cloud surcharged with many tears;
When I would gaze where rock-constrained thou
Hangest consumed by iron miseries—
Because new gods th' Olympian hill obtaineth,
And by new laws the son of Saturn reigneth—
And past the mighty things of former years.
