It is hardly necessary to add anything about the honour rendered the poet by the Nobel Prize award, imless to say that it was due to a distinguished Swedish Orientalist who had read the poems in Bengali before they appeared in English. India greatly appreciated the honour; as for the author himself, he was at first over-whelmed by the publicity it brought: "They have taken away my shelter," he wrote.
