OLAF HOLTEDAHL. [SEC. ARCT. EXP. FRAM On Rutherford land we measured the highest at 584 1 feet, and on Bedford I'ini inland at 394 1 - feet. At Jones Sound the highest marine terrace was noted at tin- head of (loose Fjord, at an altitude of 466 feet : and on the toji of tin- pass leading from the head of Trold Fjord over to Bay's Fjord, which prohahly lie- at the same altitude or a little higher, we observed errant blocks of foreign formation. Similar terraces were also noted further north in Fnreka Sound, though no measurement was taken of their elevation." A few more statements concerning these raised beaches have been found in SC.MKIS diaries. From the inner part of the Foulke Fjord he mentions several terraces. the lower at about 24 m. above sea level, the higher, not measured, but estimated at 100 to 12") m. In Hayes Sound were ob- served. besides the one mentioned in the report, at 571 f. (174m.). two lower ones, one at 133.6 and the other 95.1 m. (measured by aneroid). Near the winter-quarters of the ,,Fram" 189899, in Rice St., SCUM has determined the level of several terraces. Near Cape Rutherford were seen >ix distinct ones. As to their elevation definite figures can be given for DOS. 3 and 6, the former lying 22,5 m. the latter 117,0 m. above -e;i level. On the north side of Bedford Pirn Island SCHEI collected in clay, at '.'>> -40 m.. the following shells, which Curator P. A. OYKN has been so kind as to identif: ii-itnin calcaria truncata Lepetd coeca In Ibis island a terrace was found at 50 m. and another at 105 m., probably corresponding to terrace no. 5 near Cape Rutherford. Al.-o in the Havnefjord district marine terraces were seen in many plan--. (>ee pi. IV, fig. I), but no definite figures a> to their elevation are found. In many places shells were collected from the quarternary deposits. and a couple of lists from occurrences where the height of the locality is known, are cited below.
