CAP. XIII. An- Aft concerning Sea-marks and Mariners. The Mafter, Wardens and WHE R E A S the Matter, Wardens and Affiftants of the Trinity-houfc of Deptford-Strond, being a Company of the chiefeft and raoft expert Matters and Governors of Ships, incorporate within /HRftams of the ' thernfelves, charged with the Conduction of the Queen's Majefty's Navy Royai, are bound to forefee the aVoTtford- ' S°°^ Increafe and Maintenance of Ships, and of all kind of 'Men traded and brought up by Water Strond, mVy at ' Craft, moft meet for her Majefty's Marine Service. And that all fuch Beacons, Marks and Signs fo to be by them or their Affigns erected, made and t. C< 2o. nna5 ' f et U P» at the Cofts and Charges of the faid Mafter, Wardens and Affiftants, fhall and may be continued, renewed and maintained from Time to l ime, at the Cofts and Charges of the faid Mafter, Wardens and Affiftants; any Thing to the contrary hereof notwithflanding. XV. And be it further ordained and enacted by the Authority aforefaid, that no Steeples, Trees or other ■Things now ftanding as Beacons or Marks for the Sea, whereof to the Owner or Occupier of the Place tvhere the fame doth grow or ftand, before the firft Day of March next coming Notice fhall be given by the Queen's Majefty's Letters under her Signet, fhall at any Time hereafter be taken down, felled or otherwife cut down; upon Pain that every Perfon by whofe Procurement or Confent fuch Offence ihall be committed, fhall forfeit the Sum of one hundred Pounds, whereof the one Moiety to the Queen's Majefty, and the other Moiety to be to the Mafter, Wardens and Affiftants of the faid Trinity-houfe. A.nd if the faid Perfon or Perfons fo offending be not of the Value of one hundred Pounds, then the fame Perfon and Perfons to be deemed convict of Outlawry ipfo failo, to all Constructions and Purpofes. Mariners licen- V. And further, be it enacted by Authority aforefaid, that all Mariners and Sea-faring Men dwelling ced bytheTri- about the faid River of Thames, being thereto licenced by the faid Mafter, Wardens and Affiftants, and nity-houfe may having fufficient Certificate of fuch Licence from the faid Mafter and Wardens, as well between their apply as Water- y y a g- es as at other Times, at their Wills and Pleafures, by Force hereof, the better to keep and refrain Thames'. 6 themfelves from Folly, Idlenefs and lewd Company, and for the Relief of them, their Wives and Chil- dren, fhall and may freely and quietly exercife and row in their own Wherries or any other Men's Wherries by them fo be hired, or wherein they fliall be hired to work, up and down the faid River of Thames, to apply and follow the ordinary Paffing and Carrying of the Queen's Majefty's People to and fro as other Watermen, commonly called Wherrimen, of the fame River ufe and accultom to do, without _ Impeachment, Hinderance or Let to the contrary. And that fuch Sea-faring Men fhall not thereby be~ drawn under any other Government, than under the faid Mafter, Wardens and Affiftants as they were before; any Act, Statute,- Provifion, Proclamation, Ordinance or Cuftom heretofore againft the Premifies ordained ©r made in any wife notwithstanding.
