VIII. And to prevent any Doubts that may hereafter arife concerning Corner-piers, and with v/hat Ma- The Dimenfion tcrials the fame ought to be made; (2} Be it enaited and declared by the Authority aforefaid. That all ofComcr-picra, Corner-piers of Stone or Brick hereafter to be crefted, fhall be of the Dimenfions of the Piers of Stone mentioned in the faid Afl:. IX. And that it be left to the Liberty of all and every the Builders of Corner-houfes, to ufe a fub- ft ntial Poft of Oak-Timber, to prevent the Danger that may happen by Carts and Carriages, inflead of the Corner-pier of Brick or Stone, of fuch Dimenfions and Scantlings, as the Surveyors of the faid City fhall direii or appoint; the faid AiSt, or any Thing therein contained, to the contrary notwith- ftanding. X. And be it enafted. And all Owners, Occupiers, and all other Perfon and Perfons, any Way interefled of or in any '^°" ™' ' Grounds fo flaked and fet out for the Cutting, Opening and Enlarging of the faid Streets, Lanes or Paf- fages, or any of them, are hereby required to take Notice thereof, and to conform thereunto accordingly; {2) and alfo that the Levels and Marks for Raifing or Sinking as well of the faid Street called Thames-Jircet, and the Ground between the fame and the River of Thames, as all other Streets in and about the faid City and Liberties thereof, in fuch Manner as the fame are or fhall be appointed to be done before the twenty- ninth Day oi September one thoufand fix hundred feventy-one, by the CominifTioners of Sewers and Pave- ments appointed by Aft of Parliament, be henceforth obferved in all Places within the fame. XIII. Provided neverthelefs. That where any Houfe or Houfes for Habitation have been built, or were' in Building, within the faid City and Liberties thereof, on or before the fourteenth Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thoufand fix hundred fixty and eight, at which Time the faid Rules and Levels, for Rai- fing or Sinking of the faid Streets, were either not publifhed, or not generally known; that it fhall and may- be lawful for the faid Surveyors (who are hereby authorized and required fo to do) with as little Variation from the faid Rule as conveniently may be, fo to alter the faid Levels or Marks, or any of them, as that the faid Buildings fo erefted may receive as little Damage thereby as may be : And if the faid Surveyors or . ' either of them, upon Requefi: and due Notice to be given by the Owner or Occupier of fuch Houfe, fhall; refufe to do his o,r their Duty herein, or the faid Owner or Occupier fliall have any juft Exceptions to their Determination in the PremifTes ; that then and in fuch Cafe, it fhall and may be lawful for the faid Owner or Occupier of fuch Houfe, (fo thereby grieved) to appeal by his Petition in Writing to the Lord Mayor and Court of Aldermen, who upon deliberate Hearing of both Sides fhall finally determine fuch Controverfy without further or other Appeal. ' XIV. And whereas in and by the faid Aft for Rebuilding of the faid City, it is further provided. That ' the Surveyors by Virtue of the faid Aft appointed, and every of them, within their feveral Precinfts, fhall ' take Care for the equal fetting out of all Party-walls and Party-piers, and that they permit no Perfon ' to build either on the faid Party-walls, or on his own contiguous Ground, till the fame be performed ac- ' cordingly :' XV. Now to the Intent that all Exaftion in taking the faid Surveys, and that all Differences which may hereafter arife between any the faid Builders, may be prevented ; (2) Be it enafted. That no Builders be permitted by the faid Surveyors to lay his or their Foundations, until the faid Surveyors, or one of them, according to the true Intent of the faid Aft, have firff viewed the fame, and feen the faid Party-walls and Piers equally fet out accordingly : For the Defraying whereof, and all incident Charges of Meafuring, Sta- king out, taking the Level, ao.d Surveying the faid Streets and Grounds ; XVI. Be it further enafted.
