An A£l for the reviving and continuing feveral A<Sts therein mentioned, for the preventing Mif- chiefs which may happen by Fire ; for building and repairing County Gaols ; for exempting Apothecaries from ferving Parifli and Ward Offices, and ferving upon Juries ; and relating to the returning of Jurors. WHEREAS divers Temporary Laws, which by Experience have been found Ufeful and Bene- ficial, are expired and near expiring, therefore for reviving and continuing the fame,' Be it enadted by the Queen's moll: Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Comm^ons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame. That the Claufe herein after- mentioned in the A£t made in the fixth Year of her prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, yfn A£i for the better preventing Mijchiefs that may happen by Fire, videlicet; And be it fur- ther enatled by the Authority aforcfaid. That no Action, Suit, or Frocefs whatfoever, fhall be had, main- tained, or profecuted agaiinft any Perfon in whofe Houfe or Chamber any Fire fhall, from and after the faid -firfl: Day of May, accidentally begin, or any Recompence be made by fuch Perfon for any Damage fufFered or occafioned thereby.; any Law, Ufage, or Cuftom to the contrary notwithstanding ; and if any Adlion .fhall be brought for any thing done in purfuance of this Aft, the Defendant may plead the General Iflue, and give this Aft in Evidence ; and in cafe the Plaintiff become nonfuit, or difcontinue his Aftion or Suit, or if a Verdift pafs againfthim, the Defendant fhall recover Treble Coft : Which Claufe being made tem- porary, and being expired, fliall be, and are hereby revived and made perpetual. II. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That the Aft made in the eleventh and twelfth Years of the Reign of his late R'lajefty King William the Third, intituled. An Acl to enable 'Jujlices of the Pcaee to build and repair Gaols in their refpeaive Counties, which was to continue for ten Years, being expired, fhall be and is hereby revived and continued, and fhall be in Force, from the firft: Day of Afay one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, for and during the Space of feven Years, and from thence to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament. This Claufe is made perpetual by 6Geo. i. c. J9. §. I. Til. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. for the Space of feven Years, and from thence to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament ; which Aft will expire at the End of the next Seffion of Parliament, after the eleventh Day of February one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, fhall be and remain in full Force from and after the Expiration thereof, for the Space of eleven Years, and from thence to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament. And whereas in an Act made in the fourth and fifth Years of the Reign of their late Majefties ■' 'King William and Qiieen Mary, intituled, Aji Aol for reviving, continuing, and explaining feveral Laws ■'■ therein mentioned, ivhich are expired and near-expiring, there are feveral good Claufes and Provifions rela- ' ting to the returning of Jurors, which Claufes and Provifions were by the faid Act to continue in Force for ' three Years, from the firft of iWay one thoufand fix hundred ninety-three, and from thence to the End ■'of the next Seffion of Parliament ; which faid Claufes and Provifions were, by an Act made in the feventh ' and eighth Years of the late King William the Third, intituled. An Aci for the Eaje of Jurors, and ' better reguhiting of Juries, continued for feven Years, from the firil: Day of May one thoufand fix hundred ' ninety-fix, and from thence to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament, and Jio longer ; which faid laft- ' mentioned Act was alfo to continue but for the faid Te; m of feven. Years, from the faid firft Day of May ' one thoufand fix hundred ninety-fix, and to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament ; but was by ano- ' ther Act made in the firft Year of the Reign of her prefent Majefty, intituled. An All for continuing ' former ASis for exporting Leather, and for Eaje of Jurors, and for reviving and making more ejfe£tucil an AM ' relatini; to Vagrants, continued further for feven Years from the Expiration thereof, and to the End of the ' next Seffion of Parliament : And Vv'hercas feveral other Claufes and Provifions, relating to the Returns ■' and Service of Jmors, were made in another Act made in the Seffion of Parliament, held in the third and fourth Years of her prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled. An ASl for making perpetual an A£l for the more ' eqfy Recovery of fmall Tithes ; and alfo an Act for the more eafy obtainiijg Partition of Lands in Coparcenary, ' Joint Tenancy, and Tenancy in co?mnon ; and afo for making more effFeBual and amending feveral Aits reiating ' to the Return of Jurors ; and were only to continue in Force during the Continuance of the faid Act ; all ' which Claufes, Provifions, and Act, are near expiring ;' Be it therefore enacted by the Authority afore- 'i;n-l. That all the faid Claufes, Provifions, and Act, fhall be, and are hereby continued, and fhall be in Force from the Expiration thereof, for and during the Space of eleven Yeats, and from thence to the End of the next Seffion of Parliament. ' V. And whereas by the faid Act made in the feventh and eighth Years of the faid King William, it ' is enacied, That from and after the four and twentieth Day of June one thoufand fix hundred ninety-fix, ' no Perfon ftiall be returned or fummoned to ferve upon any Jury of the Affizes, or general Gaol Delivery .
