II & 13 W. 3. 2 Annae, c. 7. 4 Geo. *, c. 13. he or {he (hall thereby fuftain, and all the Cofts and Charges that he or fhe fhall be put unto for Reco- very thereof. IV. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That where any Infant or Feme Covert fhall be admitted to any Copyhold MefTuages, Lands, Tenements or Hereditaments, if the Guardian of fuch Infant, or Hufband of fuch Feme Covert, fhall pay to the Lord or Lords of any Manor or Manors, the Fine or Fines legally impofed and fet upon fuch Admittance or Admittances, and the Cofts and Charges which fuch Lord of fuch Manors fhall have been put unto as aforefaid ; that then it fhall and may be law- ful to and for every Guardian of fuch Infant, or Hufband of fuch Feme Covert, their Executors and Ad- miniftrators, to enter into, and to hold and enjoy all and every the faid Copyhold MefTuages, Lands, Te- nements and Hereditaments, to which fuch Infant or Feme Covert fliall be fo admitted, and the Rents, Iffues and Profits thereof to receive and take to his and their own Ufe, until thereby fuch Guardian of fuch Infant, or Hufband of fuch Feme Covert, their Executors and Adminiftrators, fhall be fully fatisfted and paid all and every fuch Sum and Sums of Money, as they fhall refpectively pay and difburfe upon the Account aforefaid, notwithftanding the Death or Deaths of fuch Infants or Femes Covert fhall happen before fuch Sum or Sums of Money fo expended fhall or may be fo raifed and reimburfed. V. Provided always, and be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the aforefaid, twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-three, no Infant or Feme Covert fhall forfeit any Copyhold MefTuages, Lands, Tenements, or Hereditaments, within that Part of Great ■ Britain called England, and the Dominion of Wales, for their Neglect or Refufal to come to any Court , or Courts to be kept for any Manor or Manors, whereof fuch MefTuages, Lands, Tenements or Here- ditaments are Parcel, and to be admitted thereto, nor for the Omiffion, Denial or Refufal of any fuch Infant or Feme Covert, to pay any Fine or Fines, impofed or fet upon their or any of their Admittances to any fuch Copyhold MefTuages, L^nds, Tenements or Hereditaments ; any Law, Ufage or Guftom to the contrary thereof notwithftanding. VI. Provided neverthelefs, That if the faid Fine or Fines, impofed in any of the Cafes before menti- oned, fhall not be warranted by the Cuftom of the Manor, or fhall be unlawful, that then fuch Infant ' or Feme Covert fhall be at Liberty to controvert the Legality of fuch Fine or Fines, in fuch Manner as he or me might have done, if this Act had never been made ; any Thing herein contained to the con- trary notwithftanding. CAP. XXX. An A£t for compleating the Repairs of the Harbour of Dover, in the County of Kent; and for restoring the Harbour of Rye, in the County of Sujfex, to its ancient Goodnefs. WHEREAS the repairing and keeping clean the Harbours of this Kingdom is of great Ufe and Benefit to Trade and Navigation: And whereas, for repairing the Harbour of Dover, in the County of Kent, an Act was made in the eleventh and twelfth Years of the Reign of his late Majefty King William the Third, of glorious Memory, intituled, An ASi for the Repair of Dover Harbour, whereby a Duty of three Pence per Tun was laid upon all fuch Ships and Veffels as are therein defcribed, for raifing the Sum of thirty thoufand and one hundred Pounds ; which faid Duty was to commence from the firft Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred, and to continue to the firft Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and nine : And whereas the faid Act v/as, by another Act made in the fecond Year of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen Anne, con- tinued from the thirtieth Day of April one thoufand feven hundred and nine, until the firft Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and eighteen ; and the faid two Acts are, by another Act made in the fourth Year of his prefent Majefty 's Reign, further continued from the faid firft Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and eighteen, until the firft Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-feven : And whereas it is found, that the faid Sum of thirty thoufand and one hundred Pounds is not fufncient for the Purpofes of the faid Acts (feveral Breaches, and other unforefeen Accidents, having happened by Storms, and the Rage of the Sea, and extraordinary Works having been found neceffary to be done for fecuring the faid Harbour) fo that, unlefs a further Sum be raifed, the faid Harbour cannot be ef- fectually repaired and fecured, according to the Intent of the faid Aits, but the ufeful Works, already begun and carried on for the Benefit of the Publick, will be wholly loft, and the faid Harbour again fall to Decay, and the Town itfelf be in Danger of being utterly loft and deftroyed : And whereas the ancient Harbour of Rye in the County of Suffix, formerly of great Ufe and Benefit to Trade and" Navigation, is at prefent choaked up, and almoft ruined by the fhiftfng of the B:ach without, and fet- tling of the Sullage within, and by flopping the Flux of the Tide, fo that, for preventing the utter Lofs of the faid Harbour, it is neceffary to open the fame, and to let the Tide have free Courfe through cer- tain Sluices near to the faid Harbour, called Scotch Flatt and Craven Sluices, in the prefent Channels to the drowned Lands between Blackwall and Maytbam, in the faid Counties of Kent and Suffix, or into fuc-h^ other Cut or Channel, as fhall be found molt proper and, expedient to reftore the faid Harbour :' To the End therefore that the faid Works at Dover Harbour may be compleated and finifhed, and the fame Harbour be effectually repaired and fecured ; and to the End the faid Harbour of Rye may be repaired and reftored to its ancient Goodnefs, and fecured for the Benefit of Trade and Navigation ; May it pleafe your Majefty, that it may be enacted, fcfe.
