The Dimenfions and Weight of Brjtifh made Sail Cloth, after 19 Sept. 1736. thereby to defraud his Majefty, his Heirs or Succeffors, of any of the faid Duties thereby granted ; then every fuch Perlbn fo offending, and duly convicted thereof, fhall forfeit the Sum of fifty Pounds ; and if any Perfon or Perfons fhall, at any time or times after the faid twenty-fourth Day of 'June one thou- fand l'even hundred and thirty-fix, (ell or expofe to Sale any fuch foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas with a counterfeit Stamp thereon, knowing the fame to be counterfeit, and with an Intent to deiraud his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeffors, all and every fuch Offender and Offenders, being duly con- victed thereof as aforefaid, fhall forfeit the Sum of fifty Pounds. III. And, for the better afcertaining and diftinguifhing the Sail Cloth of the Britijh Manufacture from fuch foreign Sail Cloth as aforefaid, Be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That every Manufacturer or Maker of Sail Cloth in Great Britain fhall, from and after the twenty-ninth Day of September one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, affix or imprefs, or caufe to be affixed or impreffed, on every Piece of Sail Cloth by him manufactured or made, a Stamp containing the Name and Place of Abode of fuch Manufacturer or Maker, in plain diftinct Letters and Words at length ; and if any Manu- facturer or Maker of Sail Cloth or other Perfon fhall fell or expofe to Sale, or work up into Sails, any Piece or Bolt of Britijh Sail Cloth without being ftamped as aforefaid, fuch Manufacturer or Maker or other Perfon fo offending, and being thereof lawfully convicted upon the Oath of one or more credible Witnefs or Wimeffes, before any one or more Juftice or Juftices of the Peace for the County, City or Town where the faid Offence fhall be committed (which Oath the faid Juftice or Juftices is and are hereby impowered and required to adminifter) fhall forfeit the Sum of ten Pounds for each and every Piece of Sail Cloth by him or them fold or expofed to Sale, or worked up into Sails, not being ftamped as aforefaid ; and if any Perfon or Perfons whatfoever fhall wilfully or malicioully cut off, deftroy or ob- literate any Stamp fo affixed or impreffed as aforefaid (except in the tarring or working up the fame) or lhall affix or imprefs any Stamp, on which fhall be ftamped the Name or Place of Abode of any other Perfon or Perfons, and not his or their real Name or Names and Place or Places of Abode ; fuch Perfon or Perfons being convicted of any of the Offences aforefaid fhall for every fuch Offence forfeit the Sum of five Pounds ; which faid laft mentioned Forfeiture fhall be levied and recovered by Diilrefs and Sale of the Offender's Goods and Chattels, by Warrant or Warrants under the Hands and Seals of two or more Juftices of the Peace for the County, Riding, City or Place where the Offence lhall be committed, and (hall go and be applied to the Ufe of the Infoimer or Informers. IV. And for the better encouraging the Ufe and Confumption of the faid Manufacture of Britijh Sail Cloth, Be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid twenty-ninth Day of Sep- tember one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, every Ship or Veffel which fhall be built in Great Britain, and from and after the twenty-fifth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and thirty- fix, every Ship or Veffel which fhall be built in any of his Majelty's Plantations in America, fhall upon her firft fetting out or being firft navigated at Sea have or be furnifhed with one full and compleat Set of Sails made up of Sail Cloth manufactured in Great Britain; and in cafe fuch Ship or VeiTel (hall not on her firft fetting out be fitted and furnifhed as aforefaid, that then and for every fuch Neglect or Default the Mafter of fuch Ship or Veffel (hall forfeit the Sum of fifty Pounds. V. And it is hereby enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid twenty-ninth Day of September one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, no Sail Maker or other Perfon in this Kingdom mall make or work up into Sails orTarpawlins any foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas, which fhall be imported after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June, not ftamped according to the Directions of this Act ; and in cafe any Sail Maker or any other Perfon fhall make or work up into Sails or Tarpaw- lins any foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas, other than as aforefaid, fuch Sails and Tarpawlins (hall be forfeited, and fuch Sail Maker or fuch other Perfon fhall likewife forfeit the Sum of twenty Pounds. VI. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-ninth Day of Sep- tember, which fhall be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, all Sail Cloth which-fhall be made in Great Britain, (hall be made and manufactured in the Manner and according to the Directions herein after mentioned ; that is to fay, Every Piece or Bolt of Britijh Sail Cioth that fhall be twenty-four Inches in Breadth and thirty-eight Yards in Length, (hall refpectively weigh ac- cording to the refpective Numbers and Weights hereafter mentioned ; that is to fay, Number 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- 7- 8- 9" 10- -44' -41 -3 8 -35 ~ 3Z > Pounds each Bolt. -29 -24 -21 -18 -15J VII. And in cafe any Piece or Bolt of any or either of fuch refpective Numbers, Kinds or Sorts of • BritiJIi Sail Cloth fhall be made of a different Breadth or Length than before mentioned; fuch Piece or li At of Britijh Sail Cloth (hall be increafed or diminifhed in Weight in Proportion to the Difference in fuch Length or Breadth as aforefaid, and (hall be marked or damped with fuch refpective Number as Shall be agreeable to the Weight thereof; and the Wharp or Chain of each and every Piece or Bolt of the firft fix Numbers of fuch Britijh Sail Cloth ; that is to fay, from Number 1. to Number 6. inclu- sive, fhall be wholly wrought and made of double Yarn, and lhall contain in every Piece or Bolt of fuch
