An Aft to prevent the committing of Abufes in the weighing and packing of Butter, in the Town and Borough of New Malton in the County of Tork. P R. ' "ITT HER E AS great Quantities of Butter made and produced in feveral Parts of the County of ' W York, are brought into the Town and Borough of New Malton, where there is a navigable ' River, in order to be from thence tranfported beyond the Seas, and otherwife fold and difpofed of:

  • And whereas there hath been for Time out of Mind a free Market for Butter within the faid Town and

' Borough of New Malton ; but there is not (as in fome other adjacent Markets) any particular Place ' provided and appointed within the faid Town and Borough, to which fuch Butter fhall be brought, in ' order to be fearched, weighted and fealed before the fame be fold at the faid Market; and for want of 1 which, great Frauds and Impositions have been made and committed by feveral Farmers, Dairymen ' and other Perfons trading in Butter, which hath tended to the Difparagement of the faid Commodity, 1 in the Markets both at Home and Abroad, and to the great Prejudice of the fair Dealer, and of the But-

  • ter Trade in general:' Wherefore for preventing fuch Frauds and Abufes for the future, and for the

better encouraging the faid Butter Trade ; may it pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, at the humble Requeft of the Borough Bailiff, and Inhabitants of the faid Borough of New Malton, and of feveral other Perfons refiding near the faid Borough, that it may be enacted, &c. " Borough Bailiff to appoint the Place where the Market is to be kept. Duty for fearching, weighing,

An for railing and eftablilhing a Fund for a Provilion for the Widows and Children of theMr- nifters of the Church of Scotland, and of the Heads, Principals and Mailers of the Univer- fities of -Saint Andrew's, Glafgow and Edinburgh. « Amended by ' "1T7 H E R E A S the Widows and Children of the Minifters of the Church of Scotland, and of the aiGeo. i.cii.' «  Heads, Principals and Mafters, in the Uuiverfities in that Part of Great Britain called Scotland, 1 are often left in indigent Circumftances, without any Provifion for their Subfiftence or Education; 1 And whereas all the charitable Defigns, that have hitherto been propofed for the Relief of fuch Widows ' '* and Orphans, have proved ineffectual: And whereas the general Affembly of the Church of Scotland, ' after Consultation had with all the Minifters of the faid Church, did, by their Act dated the twenty- 1 third Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and forty-three, approve of a Plan or Method for provi- ' ding for the Widows and Children of the Minifters of the Church of Scotland, whereby the faid Mini-

  • fters are to pay out of their Stipendsj at their Option, fome one of the annual Rates following, vide-

1 licet, Two Pounds twelve Shillings and fix Pence, or three Pounds eighteen Shillings and nine Pence, ' or five Pounds five Shillings, or fix Pounds eleven Shillings and three Pence, of lawful Money of Great

  • Britain, to be applied to the Payment of Life-rent Annuities to the refpefiive Widows of fuch Mini-
  • fters, amounitng to ten Pounds, or fifteen Pounds, or twenty Pounds, or twenty-five Pounds, of like
  • Money, in Proportion to fuch of the faid annual Rates as they fhall refpectively have paid ; and alfo
  • to the making Provifion refpectively for the Children of the faid Minifters, amounting to the Sum of

' one hundred Pounds, or of one hundred and fifty Pounds, or of two hundred Pounds, or of two hun-

  • hundred and fifty Pounds of like Money, and in the like Proportion: And whereas it was intended by

4 the aforefaid Act of Affembly, that the Heads, Principals and Mafters of the four Univerfities in that ' Part of Great Britain called Scotland, fhould be comprehended in the aforefaid charitable Defign, pro-

  • vided that the faid Univerfities did agree thereto: And whereas the Univerfity of Edinburgh did apply to

4 the faid General Affembly, and the Univerfities of Saint Andrew's and Glafgow did feverally apply to

  • the Comvnifiion of the General Affembly, that their refpe&ive Heads, Principals and Mafters" might be I
