' XVIII. And whereas by the faid Act of the fixteenth Year of his prefent Majefty, it was provided, ' That no Licence fhould be granted to any Perfon or Perfons whatfoever, for felling by Retail any Spi- ' rituous Liquors, except to fuch Perfons only who fhould keep Taverns, Victualling-houfes, Inns, ' Coffee-houfes, or Ale-houfes ; and any Licence granted to any other Perfons than as aforefaid were ' declared void :' Now be it further enacted, That in any Cafe where a Licence fhall have been granted Victuallers, txi for retailing Spirituous Liquors, to any Perfon who fhall, at the Time of granting fuch Licence, keep a 0D| y t0 < cXi)i Tavern, Victualling-houfe, Inn, Coffee-houfe, or Ale-houfe, if fuch Perfon fo licenfed fhall afterwards, u p ^° b *iHnce, during the Time of continuing fuch Licence, exercife the Trade of a Diftiller, Grocer, or Chandler, or q ' y keep a Brandy Shop or Shops for Sale of any Spirituous Liquors, the Licence granted in every fuch Cafe fhall be void ; and fuch Perfons retailing fuch Spirituous Liquors afterwards, fhall forfeit ten Pounds for every fuch Offence, notwithftanding fuch Licence fo obtained as aforefaid. XIX. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of Perfons felling June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-four, every Perfon or Perfons who fhall by him, or herfelf, {^an tw^Ga"-' or themfelves, or by his, her, or their Servant or other Perfon employed by him, her or them, or for his, i onf; |j, a rj (,,, her or their Benefit, retail any Spirituous Liquors mixed or unmixed with any Ingredients to be drank or deemedRetailers, confumed in any Quantity whatfoever, in his, her or their Houfes, Warehouses, Shops, Cellars, Vaults, znGeo.z. c. 40, Sheds, or other Places to him, her or them belonging, or that fhall retail or fend the fame abroad out of their faid Houfes, Warehoufes, Storehoufes, Shops, Cellars, Vaults, Rooms, Sheds, or other Places, in lefs Quantity than two Gallons, without firft taking out a Licence for that Purpofe, and renewing the fame, as in the Act paffed in the fixteenth Year of his prefent Majefty is particularly directed, fhall be deemed a Retailer of Spirituous Liquors within the Meaning of the faid Act, and as fuch fhall forfeit and lofe the Sum of ten Pounds for every fuch Offence. XX. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day Informer to be- of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-four, in all Cafes where the Perfons incurring the pecu- P a,d 5'» jiiary Penalties of the faid Act made in the fixteenth Year of his prefent Majerty's Reign, for laying a Duty on the Retailers of Spirituous Liquors, or of this Act, are not able to pay the fame, but in lieu thereof are or fhall be fent to the Houfe of Correction, it fhall and may be lawful for the Commiffioners of Excife in England and Scotland refpectively, to caufe fuch Rewards, not exceeding five Pounds, to be paid to the feveral and refpective Perfons who fhall appear to them to be intitled thereto as Informers, as to them fhall fcem meet, out of any Money that fhall be in their Hands, or of any Officer belonging to them, that hath arifen or fhall arife by virtue of any Penalties or Forfeitures incurred by the faid former or by this Act; and the Money fo paid fhall be accepted of and allowed in their Account, as fo much Money paid to his Majefty ; and the faid Commiffioners are and fhall hereby be difcharged thereof ac- cordingly. XXI.
