  • XXIX. And whereas the Pavements of the Streets in the City of London and the Liberties thereof

' are frequently damaged, by the breaking up of the fame to amend or new-lay Water Pipes, or to ' lay Water therefrom, belonging to Proprietors of Water-works, and by improper laying of fuch ' VVater Pipes, and alio by the burfting, leaking, or ouzing of Water Pipes belonging to the Pro-

  • prietors of Water-works ; and fuch Pavements are fometimes re-laid, and alfo amended, by Pavi-

That if at any Time after the faid twenty-fourth Day oi Ju?ie the Streets fliall be da- it fliall be made appear, on Oath, before any Juftice or Juftices of the Peace of the faid City oi Lon- '^^f^^l^^^^^l^^ don, by any credible Perfon, or fliall be found on the View of any fuch Juftice or Juftices, or by of relay any 'wac*eTp?pes the Prefentment of any Inqueft or Grand Jury of the faid City, that any Pavement in the faid City, &£. or the Liberties thereof, is damaged by the breaking up the fame to amend or re-lay any Water Pipe or Pipes, or to lay Water therefrom, belonging to the Proprietors of any Water-works, or by the burfting or leaking, or ouzing of any Water Pipe or Pipes belonging to the Proprietors of any Water-works, or by the improper laying of any Water Pipe or Pipes in the faid City o^ London, or the Liberties thereof, belonging to any Proprietors of Water- works ; or that any fuch Pavement hath been laid down, amended, or new or re-laid, by any Paviour employed by or under any Pro- prietors of Water-works, with bad Materials, or in an Improper Manner ; then, and in any of the any juftice upon Com- faid Cafes, it fliall be lawful for any fuch Juftice or Juftices to caufe Notice thereof, in Writing, to plaint, or View thereof, be given or left, by the Party or Parties complaining, at the publick Office of the Proprietors of »nay gi^e Notice at the t!ie Water-works to whom fuch Water Pipes which (hall have occafioned any fuch Damage fliall ^^L^?f|.^*^* Proprietors belong, or by whofe Paviour any Pavement fliall have been fo defedlively laid new, or rclaid, or &c! t^o makTcood or * amended, with bad Materials, or in an Improper Manner, or with their Colle6tor of the Diftriil new'iayfuchPave'menti in which any fuch Default in Pavement fliall be, to make good, amend, or new-lay, in a proper forthwith j Manner, every fuch Pavement, within the Space of three Days next after every fuch Notice, in Writing, fliall be fo given or left as aforefaid: And if the Proprietors of fuch Water- works ftiall and if fuch Order ftilF not, within the faid Space of three Days next after every fuch Notice in Writing fliall be fo given not be complied wuh, or left as aforefaid, caufe, at their Cofts and Charges, every fuch defective Pavement to be well and efFe£lually re-laid, repaired, or amended, with good Materials, and in a proper and efteitual Man- ner, it fliall be lawful for any fuch Juftice or Juftices of the laid City to caufe every fuch Pavement, fuch Juftice may fet Men defedlive or improper Pavement, to be well and effectually relaid, repaired or amended, with good to work, ?vlaterials, and in a proper and efteitual A'lanner, by any Paviour or Paviours any fuch Juftice or Juftices fhall think fit to employ for that Purpofe, having Regard to the Condition fuch Pave- ment was in before the fame was damaged by any of the Means aforefaid : And every Paviour who, who /hall be paid their purfuant to any Order of any fuch Juftice or Juftices, ftiall relay, or new lay, repair, amend, or Charges, as a ccrtained make good, any fuch Pavement, or defe6tive or improper Pavement as aforefaid, fliall from time to ^^ a juftice, time be paid the Charges of doing thereof, as the fame fliall be afcertained under the Hand or Hands of fome Juftice or Juftices of the faid City o^ London, who is Rjid are hereby refpedively autho- R r r 2 rized
