PREFATORY NOTE.

The numbering of the Commandments will be found different, in the present volume, from that in common use in the English and American Churches. What are commonly reckoned as the first two Commandments, are here counted as one. Consequently, what is usually considered the third Commandment, is here numbered as the second,—the fourth as the third, and so on. This is the mode of division adopted in the Lutheran Church, and which has been followed by Swedenborg.
