After Chilianwála, Sir Henry returned to Lahore, while Lord Dalhousie still remained at Firozpur, receiving occasional visits from Sir Henry, and apparently maintaining daily correspondence with him. Múltán surrendered on January 22, and the besieging army was forthwith ordered to move northwards to reinforce Lord Gough, which it did a month afterwards, when the battle of Gujrát was fought, finishing the war by a crushing defeat of the Sikh army.
