Colonnade of the Tomb represented in No. 9.




The builders of these venerable Tombs little imagined that their sacred courts and colonnades would ever be used for such a purpose as this picture represents. Where of old mourners wailed, revellers now make the walls resound with mirth. It must be confessed however that no better place could be found for a picnic than that here represented, being delidously cool. The seated figures are engaged in this pleasant relief from military monotony. The standing figures are their servants.
