On a Journey

Unable to sleep
My ears become sharp
And close by the yard
I hear plainly
A horse feeding.

For the second time
Awakening from an early morning dream,
I hear in the kitchen
The sound of starting a fire.

Piety

Of all my thoughts,
Reciting in my prayer
Only the very sad thoughts,
I fell soundly asleep.

A Mimosa Tree

On this eve as I watch
A spider weaving its web
On withered mimosa leaves,
The sadness of waning autumn
Fills my heart.
