soon expanded in every fibrous leaf, displayed in the colours and tints of flowers; is recognised in perfume, and is joyous in every living thing. All that surrounds us now is miraculous: life is a miracle. Every bud is full of promise, every leaf becomes a colony for living things, the flowers contain honey-sweets which the industrious bee carefully gathers for the use of man: thus God's operations in nature, or the effects of His Love and Wisdom appearing, therein, are miracles.

"These are thy glorious works. Parent of good!
Almighty! Thine this universal frame!
Thus wondrous fair! Thyself how wond'rous then!"

Come, then. O my soul! reflect with humble intelligence on the scene, around. The spring shadows forth the first budding of religion in thy soul, when Divine Truth, as the householder, speaks to thee early in the morning, and says, "Go, work in my vineyard, and whatsoever is right, I will give thee." (Matt. xx. 4.) Go, and through the whole of thy day here, cultivate thy mind with spiritual knowledge; watch the rising affections of the heart, look at and ponder over thy expanding thoughts, see that they tend to righteousness and truth; and be assured that whatever affection tends to good, the blossoms of wisdom will "put in white promise forth," and the fruits of holiness will be thine; for whatsoever is right the Lord will give thee. Thy reward, indeed, may be made in silence, but this is matter for rejoicing; for pure good and truth are the manna and white stone, which involve a name or quality known to none but to him who receives it.
