TRUTH.

"Lead me in thy truth, and teach me."Psalm xxv. 5.

IN all the heavens, as well as in universal creation, there is but One Truth. It is God's truth inspirited in man! This truth is immutable: it varies not—but being, as it were, the Spirit of God, goes its onward course to accomplish all its ends. Truth is that creative Spirit of Deity in which is all power, and by which creation was originally produced, and is perpetually preserved. It is by the Divine influence or truth that all nature retains the power of producing and re-producing her multifarious forms in her three kingdoms—the animal, vegetable and mineral. Truth is, strictly speaking, the voice of God in all creation; and, inasmuch as it accomplishes all things, it is therefore written, that the voice of the Lord is upon the waters; is powerful, is full of majesty; breaketh the cedars, divideth flames of fire; shaketh the wilderness; maketh the hinds to calve (Psalm xxix. 3-9); and God is said to ride prosperously because of truth. (Psalm xlv. 4.)

The prayer of every one should be, "Lord, Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me." If we are taught by the Spirit of God, our conscientious doubts will be but as the shadows of truth, and he who perceives the shadow is not far from the substance. Men may differ in their views of truth, yet these differences alter not the truth itself; for that remains the same, altogether distinct from human decision; and notwithstanding
