POWER OF GOD.
"God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this, that power belongeth unto God."—Ps. lxii. 11.
DAVID, in contemplating the Divine Majesty, says—"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him." (Ps. lxii. 5.) O how true is the sentence, that all the expectations of man, both in time and eternity, are from God. He whose love is changeless, and whose wisdom is perfect, possesses all power in heaven and earth; a power unlimited—mighty to save. "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this, that power belongeth unto God." The power of God originates in his love; there it has, as it were, its roots; and thence, passing into wisdom, is seen in its effects working out a constant creation and preservation of all things in the universe.
My soul, guard thy thoughts against the admission of erroneous notions of the power of God. Connect not Divine power with the idea of destruction, nor think of God as a destroyer. Divine power is exercised, not to destroy, but to create and preserve—to restore and to bless. Hence the all-powerful One is called the Creator, Redeemer, and Restorer of the soul, and the Leader in the paths of righteousness. All power originates in love, and as "God is love," so it is a self-evident truth that "power belongeth unto God."
