DOUBTING THOMAS.
"Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God."—John xx. 28.
THE circumstances attending the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, are among the most remarkable of any recorded in the Word of God. On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, when it was yet dark, Mary Magdalene went to the sepulchre, and seeing that the stone was taken away from the door or entrance thereof, she ran to inform Peter and John of the fact, saying, "They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him." (John xx. 2.) These two disciples ran together to the spot, and upon arriving, they both entered, saw the linen clothes lying, and the napkin that was about his head not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. After seeing these things and wondering in themselves at what had come to pass, they returned to their own homes. Mary, however, still stood without, weeping, and as she wept, she stooped down and looked in; but instead of seeing linen clothes, she saw two angels in white, sitting, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of the Lord had lain. This shews us that the love of Mary was more ardent than that of the disciples, who returned to their own home; and, therefore, she saw more; she saw living angels where the others saw but dead clothes. The angels asked her why she wept. She replied, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him." (ver. 13.) She then
