been wrought in thee, thy heart shall glow with celestial love, thy understanding be lit up with wisdom, and thou shalt, by the harmony and peace of thy mind, be thoroughly convinced of the bliss arising from Paradise Regained.
January Twentp-sixth.
WORSHIP, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.
"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving, kindness and for thy truth for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." —Psalm cxxxviii. 2.
THAT the worship of God our Father is a sweet privilege as well as a grateful duty, is clear to every one who has ever bent his soul in adoration and praise to Him who is the Creator of his being and the Giver of all blessings. The worship of the Lord Jesus, whether publicly in the company of the faithful, or privately in the family circle, brings to all and each of the worshippers the very joys and blessings which transcendently belong to the angelic life.
Remember. O Christian man, that in the solemn moments of thy sincere worship of God, thou art the gainer in all things. And thou art also a loser by thy neglect. The true worship of God is spiritual, because in such devotions the man presents the affections and thoughts of his spirit, as the first fruits of his being, to the Author of his life. O think of the rich blessings that must descend from heaven upon those who, in worship, offer up to the Lord the best affections of their hearts, the most exalted thoughts of their understandings. Such devotions are, as it were, enclosed in every motive, affection, thought, and power of the soul,
