eternity, and the wealth that never fades. Open its sacred treasures to our souls, and our eyes to behold the wondrous things in thy Law. May its pure truths, the healing waters of life, be applied to our unclean spots and stains, and to our secret faults and pollutions. May our hearts be cleansed from those inward impurities that would destroy us, and our sins purged and removed by the waters of that living fountain, which, in mercy, thou hast opened for sin and uncleanness.
Gracious Father, we beseech Thee to be our guide and instructor through this day's life or death; and whatever thy good providence may either order or permit, may we be so resigned to thy will that we may rejoice in thy dispensations, and receive from Thee the peaceful reward of conquered sin. O God our Saviour, who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, grant us thy peace and love! Cheer the afflicted in their sufferings, and brighten up with the light of thy divine countenance those in the last moments of expiring life. Give them, for earthly things, the blessings of heaven; for corruptible, those that fade not away; and for temporal, those that endure for ever.
