The population varied very little, as regards the proportion between Roman Catholics and Protestants, during the last quarter of a century or more; but the number of Jews diminished considerably, and there was a slight decrease in the proportion of Anabaptists, and members of the Greek Church. The religious division of the population in the eight provinces of the kingdom was as follows at the last census, taken December 3, 1867 : —
