Calochortus.—This rare and beautiful American lily may be grown in the same manner as recommended for Lillium speciosum. It is the custom to “dry off” the bulbs annually, and the rarity of the plant may be ascribed in part to the destructive tendency of the practice. No soft bulb should be allowed at any season to become quite dry; when grown as a pot plant, frame-culture is sufficient; the soil should be a rich light loam.
