existence to which we are all so rapidly hastening. Our duties here are but temporary, and, like our bodies, will soon have an end, but the consequences of our duties will be eternal, and, like our spirits, will be eternal in their effects upon our souls. O Lord, at the close of this, another weck, aid us to reflect solemnly upon our everlasting states. To what have our lives tended hitherto? What have been the effects deduced from them; what will be the conseyuences to us in another state of existence? O Lord God our Saviour, assist us to explore ourselves while we answer these questions in Thy immediate presence. Thy Word assures us that death is in reality the continuation of life. Our bodies wax old as a garment, and at length die and perish, but our souls are designed to live for ever in Thy heavenly kingdom or in the kingdom of darkness and despair. O God, assist us to watch over our souls, that we may resist the first pleadings to evil.
May we remember that it is an insensibility to minor evils, or those so considered by us, that gradually prepares the soul for the commission of the most glaring sins. Lord help us to watch and pray, and prepare for that eternal state that may bring us into Thy divine presence. Amen.

FOURTEENTH WEEK.—SABBATH MORNING.
MOST beneficent, gracious, and merciful Lord God our Saviour! on the dawn of this another Sabbath, we with reverence approach Thee, and consecrate our family altar with the sacrifices of our hearts and of our lips. Help us to enter on the duties of this day with teachable and humble spirits, remembering that unless we become converted and as children, we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Kindle within our affections a flame of pure love and devotion, and let the light of Thy truth so permeate our thoughts, that our whole souls may feel a pleasure in the delights of spiritual worship, and that we may consider this day as a refreshment of our souls, and regard it as holy of the Lord.
How pleasant to the humble of soul is the return of the Sabbath after the six days of labour. May we so improve its precious hours, that it may give a foretaste of heaven, and assist in preparing us for the enjoyments of eternity. May our meditations of Thee, O Lord, be sweet, and may a contemplation of Thy divine perfections bring joy and rejoicing to our hearts.
We have passed through another week. O may it be instrumental in advancing us onward in the regeneration.
Bless the instruction from Thy Word which we may this day hear. Grant it may sink deeply into our hearts, and bring forth in us a holy and religious life, to the honour and praise of Thy divine name. Amen.
