tendency to strife and emulation. It is indeed lawful for us to covet the best gifts, and Thy Word points out the duty to strive after and obtain them, and only as we strive to enter in at the strait gate shall we be able to surmount all opposing difficulties; we must labour after every thing that is excellent, and according as we labour so will our reward be. Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.

O LORD, who art ever ready to hear such petitions as flow not forth from feigned lips, let our prayer ascend up before Thee, our King and our God. With lowly reverence we bow before Thee; may Thy fear be ever before our eyes, that we sin not. May our fear not be servile, but may it be a fear that springs from love.

Thou hast urged us to seek after Thy truth under the assurance that they who seek shall find. O may Thy truth free us from all error. But, Lord, while Thy truth imparts unto us an humle confidence, that through its power we shall be able to resist evil; suffer us not to be misled by a presumptuous boldness: but in all things may we remember that our sufficiency is of Thee, and that without Thee we can do nothing. With this truth as our guide, as our spiritual Moses, we would go forth in our journey towards the promised land. O aid us to acquire a holy confidence to pursue this journey from earth to heaven; remove all doubt from our minds respecting its ultimate possession; and impress us with the certainty that it is the glory of all lands. Knowing that we have a trying wilderness to press through, nerve us with Thy strength, and give unto us a portion of the bread and the water of heaven that we faint not by the way. Our land of promise lies before us; it is above; we know, though the passage be rugged, though direful persuasions, the dread sons of Anak, oppose our progress, yet Thy description is that this land is the glory of all lands—a land flowing with milk and honey; and Thy promise is that Thou wilt go before us, and remove every obstacle out of our way. In Thy power, O Lord, may we go forth, for we can do all things through Christ Jesus that strengthenth us. Amen.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

ALMIGHTY Lord God our Saviour, the great, the only Potentate, to Thee all the hosts of heaven continually look, they offer their adorations to the King, eternal, invisible, immutable, the only wise God our Saviour. And unto Thee the company of the just made perfect offer their tribute of praise, as unto the Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty. With this glorious company, O Lord, unworthy as we are, we would yet humbly desire to unite, and to adore Thee as our Redecmer and Saviour, who hast brought life and immortality to light by Thy everlasting gospel.

We desire to approach Thee this morning, and to glorify Thy name, for Thou art holy. We thank Thee for Thy protection of us during the past night, and we pray Thee let Thy goodness and mercy follow us through
