for us that we may be made acquainted with the state in which we are, and brought to consider the important period when our final change shall take place, and when we shall enter at once into the reward of our labours. Amen.

SABBATH EVENING.

O GOD, we have heard declared unto us the noble deeds which Thou didst in the days of our fathers, in the generations of old.

The public duties of the Sabbath in which we have engaged, and which have now terminated, bring us again to our family altar, to worship and adore Thee for all the wonders of Thy redeeming love. O what are the wonders wrought of old compared with the wonder of wonders, the miracle of miracles, of man's redemption from the power of his spiritual enemies! Yet may we see, if we be humble, that even the wonders of old were but types and shadows of better things to come, and which we, in these last days, may enjoy if we be of sufiicient lowliness of mind.

How marvellous was the miracle of the manna; but O, how much more marvellous was the descent of the true Bread which came down from heaven, and gave new life to an expiring world! Thou didst provide bread for Thy people; the manna descended from heaven daily, except on the Sabbath, but it fell doubly on the eve of that day. How marvellous was it that on that day only it was preserved from putrefaction! How marvellous that every man should find there was no lack; how marvellous that it should pre-figure the true bread which came down from heaven! We see and feel, O Lord, that they had but the types, while we rejoice in the possession of the substance. Yes, our fathers did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead; but we, if we eat of the true bread, shall live for ever; and, Lord, representatively we have this day eaten of Thy flesh, and drank of Thy blood; we have imbibed a portion of the bread of life, and of the new wine of the kingdom. Evermore give us this bread. May we drink of the new wine in Thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

MONDAY MORNING.

INFINITE, eternal, and omnipotent Jehovah! just and holy, wise and good Lord God Almighty! before Thy throne we humbly bow, and supplicate Thy blessing upon the duties of another week. Thou hast preserved us during the night, O be with us and guide us safely through this day.

0 Lord, how wonderful are Thy works! in wisdom hast Thou made them all. They all attest Thy wisdom, power, and goodness: and what Thou hast ordained displays Thy love to Thy creatures, and calls for gratitude, adoration, and praise.

We confess, O Lord, that we have been indifferent to Thy bounties; we have not noted Thy wonder-working power in Thy providence, neither have we improved the knowledge wherewith Thou hast entrusted us. With shame and confusion of face we acknowledge that the world, its
