continually, that everything unworthy and selfish may be avoided, and that we may be filled with that peace which the spiritually minded can alone enjoy. Amen.

TUESDAY MORNING.

O GOD our heavenly Father, be merciful unto us, spare us that we may recover strength before we go hence and be no more seen. With the returning day returns our duty to Thee; and we now kneel in Thy presence that strength may be given us to discharge our duty faithfully. We feel how truly Thy holy Word describes our state: that the heart is set in us to do evil, and that continually; that it is deceitful above all things, who can know it? We feel that escape from this evil state is altogether impossible unless through Thy divine interference. As we look at our unreformed condition, our minds are as a dark abyss, where not a ray of light can penetrate. Evil seems to have taken a firm hold of us; horror at our past life, and doubt and distraction as to the future presses upon our consideration, seems to close every avenue against the entrance of hope, and we carry about with us a fearful retribution for the evils we have committed.

Lord, to whom can we go? who will deliver us from the bondage of this fearfal death? who will bring us out of this horrible pit of evil, which continues to drag us down still farther to its noisome depths, and plunges us nearly into despair? O help us, Lord; for vain is the help of man. Deliver us; for of ourselves we can do nothing. Amen.

Oar Father, etc.

TUESDAY EVENING.

0 LORD Jesus Christ. Thou art a God of infinite love, mercy, and com passion; there is no God else beside Thee, a just God and a Saviour. To Thee do allthe prophets, evangelists, and apostles bear witness. O hasten the day when the immutable trath, that Thou art "God over all, blessed for evermore," shall not be acknowledged merely with the lips, bot felt as the very essence of truth in the heart. © who can describe the extont of the love which Thou hast ever had towards us?' Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for bis friend!" Thy love, ever pure, sought to save, when Omnipotence alone could secomplish the work; Thou didst bow the heavens and come down; Thou, the Lord of life and glory, didst take upon Thee the form of a servant, becoming the least of all, and the servant of all. In Thy love and in Thy pity Thou didst redeem us and became our Saviour. Glory be to Thy holy name. O Lord! Heaven and earth are iull of the majesty of Thy gory. Thon art infinitely wiso—thc source of all wisdom. Thy wisdom is only equalled by Thy love, and truly Thy name is * Wonderful;" for who can fathom the depth of Thy knowledge? such wisdom is too wonderful for us; it is high, we cannot attain to it. O Thou source of a wisdom. Thou only art our Counsellor, and in Thee alone do we trast.
