to exertion, and hast not left us in despondency when trial comes upon us. O how great is thy goodness, how unbounded Thy love! How perfect must be the wisdom which ordereth and guideth and arrangeth the affairs of all men! Thou knowest what is good for man, not merely one day of his existence, but day by day; and Thou so orderest them, that he may enjoy the greatest amount of happiness here consistent with perfect happiness hereafter. How wonderful is the chain of events held in Thy almighty hand, every link of which is connected with some individual's duty, which Thou alone knowest how to direct! Such knowledge is too wonderful for us; it is high, we cannot attain to it.
Merciful Lord and Saviour, infinite in wisdom, goodness, and power, while we labour with our hands, and plan with our heads, may we still remember that it is only by looking unto Thee that we can be successful in our efforts. Unto Thee, therefore, may we constantly look, and may our hearts as well as our hands be lifted up unto Thee, our Father in the heavens. So wilt Thou safely conduct us through the deceiving appearances of the world, and as we commit our way unto Thee, and trust in Thee, and do good, Thou wilt secure to us the one thing needful. Amen.

0 LORD Jesus Christ, from Thy Word we learn wisdom. To Thy Word, therefore, may we ever resort. Muay the prayer of the wise man ba ours: "Give us neither poverty nor riches; feed us with food conyenient for us: lest we be full and deny Thee, and say. Who is the Lord? or lest we be poor, and steal, and take the name of the Lord in vain." This world is indeed one of shadows; help us therefore so to submit to Thy providential arrangements that we may be prepared for the world of substance, fo alienated are our hearts from that which is good, anid 90 frequently do we pursue the path of evil, that, did Thy divine diapengations intermit, we should certainly perish eternally. May we thersfore with devout gratitade surrender ourselves to Thy guidance; help us to set our affections on things above, in expectation of enjoying the pleasures of that world where ehange can never come; help us to behold with tranquillity the daily vicissitudes to which all terrestrial things are subject; knowing that these bring us nearer to the world of reality, and that, once there, all our cares and anxieties will terminate. To Thee, most blessed and glorifted Redeemer, the Father of ali mercies, the God of all consolation, we now resign ourselves.
