may every effort that we make leave us in the possesion of that confidence which shall teach us that Thy grace is sufficient for us, and as all our skill cannot free us from the assaults of our spiritual enemies, so teach us that whosoever trusteth in Thee, "mercy shall compass him about."

As the Church at present appears in a state of consummation from the evils and false principles in which it has indulged, O aid us that we may look continually unto Thee for counsel. May Thy holy Word be unto us as our sole director in all that has relation both to our souls and bodies. For Thy name's sake, grant our petitions, O Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

6) LORD our God, to whom belongeth meroy. Thou hast again protected

as through another day, and amidst all our carea and anxieties. Thy good Spirit has been watchful over us, and brought us safely to its conclusion. We desire ta express our grateful sense of Thy divine profection aud forbearance; Thou hast multiplied Thy mercies, and Thon hast not visited us according to our evils, but notwithstanding all our transgressions Thon hast still acted towards us asa tender and compassionate father,

Lord God of our salvation, permit us to adore Thee this evening for the unspeakable blessings derived from the gift of Thy holy Word. How gracious are the worda of eternal life, and how tender are the oxpostulations that are made to induce us to receive them! How gloriously are the delights of heaven displayed betore us, and how earnestly are we eounselled to prepare te lay hold of them! When sickness overtakes us, how consolatory are the truths we find therein; and when friends turn from us in the hour of adversity, and "injuries will abound when adversity prevaila," then do we find that Thou art a Friend sticking eloser than a brother, and experience how much better it is to trust in the Lord than to put any confidence in man. We glorify Thy hol: name. O Lord Jesus Christ, for Thy great goodness towards ns.:

THURSDAY MORNING.

ALMIGHTY Lord and Saviour, the Father of our spirits, the God of all consolation, after a night of repose, whereby our bodies are again strengthened and prepared for our daily duties, permit us to come into Thy presence, and dedicate the first moments of this new day to Thee. O Lord, we praise Thee, we give Thee thanks; Thy blessings flow onwards uninterruptedly; Thy goodness and mercy know no limit. O let Thy heavenly influence descond into our hearts, and grant that the portion of Thy Word we have read may operate as a solemn warning to pursue our duties with care and watchfulness, that we may ever be in a state of humble readiness to attend that call which shall summon us into Thy presence.

We feel the deep solemnity of Thy Word: "Set thine house in order."
