We feel that by looking unto Thee, we can alone be preserved from evil, and be delivered from the infestation of our spiritual enemies. Day by day does the Word of Thy truth convince us of its stedfastness; without Thee we can do nothing. O heavenly Father, we desire most earnestly that aid which shall teach us the force and loveliness of truth, and which shall under all circumstances make us cling unto it. We pray for integrity and uprightness, for that singleness of eye and purity of heart which shall enable us to endure any suffering rather than compromise the truth. May the examples in Thy Word, which Thou hast so openly set before us, teach as that denying ungodliness, our duty is to live righteonsly in this present evil world. May we give good heed to our own conduct rather than presume to question the lives of others. Above all things, O Lord, keep us from "evil speaking, lying, and slandering," for this is to violate Thy righteous command by bearing false witness against our neighbour. Hear us, O Lord, and help us to do our duty, for Thy name and mercy sake. Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.

[teeth Father! redeeming Lord! parent of all that is true and

good! with the declining day we come into Thy presence, and Thy Word of truth having been read in our ears, we now on our knees hambly enter on conversation with Thee; for prayer, rightly considered, we beljeve to bé conversation with Thee, our God.

Thou art a God of trath, and by Thy truth must our actions be this day tried. Lord, we would arraign ourselves before Thee, and ask our consciences how we have spont the day that is past. Commencing its duties by imploring assistance to pursue a particular line of duty, and knowing assistance id never withheld from those who humbly seek it, how have we laid hold of the aid which Thou. Lord, hast proferred? Have we been diligent to keep ourown conduct within the compass of truth and uprightness without presuming to attack the faults of others? Have we faithfully and in all things preserved ourselves from sin, without thanking God that we ere not as other men—auujust, extortionera, or even a8 those living in most flagrant evila? Have we felt that sven in comparing our own piety with that of others there is sin? for when our piety reaches its highest degree of purity, what is if but still contaminated by evil: yea, those who have passed from a natural into a spiritual state aro not free from sin; the very angels are not pure in Thy sight. Lord, our self examination still convicts us of sin. O help ns to repent, for our works are not foung perfect by Thee. Amen.

{{di|THOU O Lord, who art mercy and goodness itself, hast renewed our existence, and again hast Thou permitted us to unite in prayer and thanksgiving. Blessed be Thy name for Thy loving-kindness and forbearance towards us. May we show our gratitude by a devout and willing obedience to all Thou shalt enjoin. May a recollection of the pro-
