and its concerns holds too much dominion over us. Help us, we beseech Thee, to awake to newness of life. Disclose to us by the light of divine truth the glories of the unseen world, that the objects and pleasures of time may appear in their secondary character. Aid us, we beseech Thee, to acquire a relish for divine things, that our thought, and affections may have such tendencies as are spiritually profitable.

We feel our own weakness, O Lord; we are easily drawn aside to the indulgence of our natural inclinations; our hearts are evil, and our spiritual adversaries incessantly watch to induce indulgence in actual sin. O teach us that whatsoever is dearest to the merely natural principle must be sacrificed to our duty towards Thee. We can never enjoy true peace until our inclinations to evil are subdued. Help us to know, love, and fear Thee. Guide us in all our affairs, and lead us into Thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

EIGHTH WEEK.—SABBATH MORNING.

O LORD Jesus Christ, we, as a family of Thy people, humbly implore Thee that we may be enabled to render some service in the cause of truth this holy day. And if our abilities are such as to unfit us for public teaching, may we by simple obedience show forth in our lives, the reverence with which we regard this sacred day. We pray that our light may so shine, and our good works be so seen, as to glorify Thee our Father who art in heaven.

O Lord, give to the ministers engaged in the services of this day wise and discerning spirits, that they may learn the states and conditions of the people entrusted to their care, and deal out to them accordingly their portion of spiritual nourishment. May the darkness of error give place to the light of truth, and on those who fear Thy name may the Sun of Righteousness arise, with healing in His wings.

O give unto Thy ministering servants tongues of eloquence and persuasion, and understandings for the discrimination of truth. May they speak the truth in love, and awaken, by their fervid appeals, the consciences of their hearers. May we respect them for their works' sake. May we receive their rebukes with humility, and remember that they are placed as watchmen over us,—as those that must give an account unto Thee, the Great Shepherd of our souls, and give due diligence to deliver their own souls.

May we enjoy the services of this day; and may we and all our fellowworshippers unite in a general ascription of praise to Thee, the Lord God, the Omnipotent, who reigneth for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father, etc.

SABBATH EVENING.

O LORD Jesus Christ, unto Thee do we address ourselves on the evening of this sacred day. We acknowledge, O Lord, that our "hearts are deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked." Guard us against the unhallowed workings of our own corruptions, and keep us steadfast in Thy truth. He that walketh wisely walketh surely. But as
