BRITISH PHARMACOPŒIA.
Solution of Ferricyanide of Potassium.
It gives an intensely blue precipitate with ferrous salts, but none with ferric salts. It is used with the following substances:
- Ferri Arsenias
- Ferri„ Carbonas Saccharata
- Ferri„ Phosphas
- Ferri„ Sulphas
- Ferri„ Sulphas„ Exsiccata
- Ferri„ Sulphas„ Granulata
Solution of Litmus.
It gives a red colour with acids and a blue colour with alkalies. It may be used with the following substances:—
- Acidum Hydrochloricum
- Acidum„ Hydrochloricum„
- Acidum„ Hydrochloricum„ Dilutum
- Acidum„ Nitricum
- Acidum„ Nitricum„ Dilutum
- Acidum„ Nitro-hydrochl. Dil.
- Acidum„ Sulphuricum

- Ammonii Carbonas
- Borax
- Liquor Ammoniæ

Solution of Yellow Chromate of Potassium.
It gives a red colour with nitrate of silver, but not until any soluble bromide or iodide present is entirely decomposed. It may be used with the following substances:—
- Ammonii Bromidum
- Potassii Bromidum
- Potassii lodidum
- Sodii Bromidum
- Sodii Iodidum
Tincture of Phenol-Phthalein.
It gives an intense red colour with potash or soda, It may be used with the following substances:—
- Acetum
- Acidum Aceticum
- Acidum„ Aceticum„ Dilutum
- Acidum„ Aceticum„ Glaciale
- Acidum„ Citricum
