Andrew Stewart, .sometime Lord Ochiltree [S.], 1 IfilO was, in pursuance of the King's letters, 28 May 161S,( 11 ) n 7 Nov. 1619, BARON CASTLE STEWART of co. Tyrone [1.1 He was s. and h. of Andrew Stewart, Master of Ochiltree, by Margaret, his wife, and grandson and h. of Andrew, '2nd Lord Ochiltree [S.J, whom he sue. in that peerage between 2 Ang. 1593 and 21 March 1601/2. He was first Gent, of the Bedchamber to King James, was Gen. of the Artillery, and Gov. of Edinburgh Castle. On 11 March 1613/4 he was, with other English and Scotch Peel's, sum. by writ, to the Irish House of Lords. ( h ) Having ruined himself by an expensive style of living, he sold his Scotch estate to his cousin, Sir James Stewart, to whom In; resigned, with consent of the Crown, his Scotch Peerage in 1615. Retaining the King's favour, however, he obtained large grants of land in co. Tyrone and an Irish Peerage as above mentioned. He m. before 16 March 1591/2, Margaret, da. of Sir John Kennedy of Blairqnhan. He d. Jan. 1628/9. II. 1629. 2. Andrew (Stewart), Baron Castle Stewart [I.], s. and h. He had, v.p. been a: a Baronet [S.] 2 Oct. 1628. On 14 July 1634 he took his seat in the House of Lords [I.]. He was a great patron of such Scots as had settled in Ireland, especially of the "nonconforming ministers." Hem. Ann, 4th da. and coheir of John (Stewart), 5th Earl ok Athui.e [S.], by Mary, da. of William (Ruthven), Earl ok Gowrie [S.]. He d. 1639. Admon 3 Dec. 1647 tu " Sir Arthur Blundell, Knt." for use of Andrew, " Lord Stewart, now Baron of Castle Stewart," during his absence. III. 1639. 3. Andrew (Stewart), Baron Castle Stewart [I.], s. and h. On 21 Nov. 1648 he was served h. to his grandfather, Lord Ochiltree [S.] in the lands of Crugilltown Castle, co. Wigton. He was Gov. for the King, in 1642, of Fort Falkland in King's county, but was forced to surrender it to Gen. Preston. He m. Joyce, da. and h. of Sir Arthur Blundell of Blundellstowu in King's county. He d. s.p.m., 1650.( c ) IV. 1650. 4. Josias (Stewart), Baron Castle Stewart [I.], br. and h. male. He m. (lie. at Vic. Gen. 2 April 1662) being then "of Westm. about 25, Bach." Anne, da. of John Madden of Maddenstown co. Kildare. He d. suddenly and s.p. 2 Dec. 1662 in Dublin and was bur. at St. Bride's in that city.
