BARON DIGBY UK GEASH 11.1. in King's County [I.J, with a spec, rem., failing heirs mule of bis body, to his brothers George, Gerald, John, Symon, Essex, and Philip Digby, in like in-inner respectively ; his mother, " Lettice Fitzgerald, alias Digby, widow," being, in the same patent, confirmed in the title of B.utONKSS Oitai.ky [1.] (which "she bad long enjoyed ") for her life, the same to " revert again to the house of Kildar ■ and not to the children of the said Lady Lettice "(). lie was made Gov. of the King's County in 1G27 ; took bis scat in the House of Lords [I.] 14 July 1034 ; was in command of a troop of horse for the King early in 1042, in which year on ti Juno he died and was bur. in St, Patrick's, Dublin. He m. firstly, Sarah, widow of the Hon. Sir Thomas MoORB (who d. 1 Dec. 1628), 2d da. cf Roger (Buyle), 1st Eaiil ok Coiik [I.], by his 2d wife Catharine, da. of Sir Geoffrey Fi-.ntok. She, who was b in Dublin, 29 March 1000, il 14 July and was bur. 12 Aug. 1033 in St. Patrick'! afsd. lie m. secondly Elizabeth, widow of Sir Francis Astley, da. of Sir James AltiiaM, of Oxliey, Herts, by his second wife. She m. secondly (as his 2d wife), Sir Robert Bernard, 1st Bart, (who d. 1666 in bis 00th year), and d. 3 and was bur. 7 Jany. 1002,3 at St. Paul's, Covent Garden, Midx. Her admon. 17 Kov. 1004 to a creditor. II. 1642. Kilbaue (Drecr), Baron Pigmy of Grasihi.l [I.], only s. and h„ by 1st wife : a minor in 1042, but took bis seat 25 June 1601 ; Governor of the King's County. He had previously, on 1 Dec. 1G0S, MM. his grandmother Lettice, suo jure Bakontss OfPALET [I.], in her Irish estates but not in her Peerage dignity. He m. in or before 1652, Mary, da. of Robert GaIidixkh of Loudon. He d. at Dublin 11 July 1001 and was bur. (with his parents) in St. Patrick's afsd. M.I. Will dat. IS June 1661, nr. S June 1005. His widow, who resided at Coleshill afsd., d. 23 Dec. 1092 and was bur. there. M.I. Her will dat. !> Dec. 1091, pr. 3 Feb. 1692/3. III. 1661. J. Robert (Digby), Baron Digby of Geasiiill [I.], 2d but 1st surv. s. ami h., b. 30 April 1654;; matric. at Oxford (Mag. Coll.), 0 Nov. 1070; cr. M.A., 11 July 1U70. He d. num. 29 Dec. 1077 and was bur. »t Coleshill afsd. M I. IV. 1677. 4- Simok (Digby), Baron Dioby of Geashill [L], next br. and h., 4. 18 July 1657 ; matric. at Oxford (Mag. Coll.), 1 June 1674( c ). He m. Frances, 1st da. of Edward (Now), 1st Eaiil ok QjUXRBOKOUOH, by his first wife Elizabeth, da. of Thomas ( Wuiotmesi.ky), Karl ok Soi'tiiamiton. She d. in childbirth, 29 Sep. 1084, in her 23rd year, and was bur. at Coleshill. He d. 19 Jany. 1486 s.p.m.C) and was bur. there, having been a benefactor to that parish. M.I. ( a ) This Sir Robert was eldest br. of George Digby, cr., in 1618, Baron Digby of Sherborne, and in 1022, Earl of Bristol as above stated, whoso title and male issue became extinct in 1G98. The peerage appears to have been granted to put an end to any claim that the heir ttentral of the Earls of Kildare might have to any Peerage Barony [I.] invested in them, altho' other reasons are stated as " propter amplitudinem terrarum ct posses- Bionum, quas habet, tarn in hoc regno noatro Hibernito quiira in regno nostro Angliso." (°) Among the graduates of Oxford occurs "Digby, Hon. (sic. J Simon, M.A., of Trim Coll., Dublin, incoip. July 11 1676 j D.D. by Decree of Conv. Dec. 12 1077." This is a few weeks before Simon Digby in the text sue. to the peerage, but perhaps does not refer to him. No Simon Digby appears to have been "J/. A." of Dublin Univ., tho' there is "Digby, Symon, U.K., Vein., 1001," when our Simon was but 7 years old. (*!) Frances, his only da. and h., m. James (Scudamore), 3d Viscount Scudamore [1.1, and d. 3 May 1729 aged 14, leaving issue which became extinct in 1820, on the death of Frances, Dow. Duchess of Norfolk.
