Sir Tltomas de Dagworth, s. of John D. and br. Writ. and h. of another John D. all of Dagworth co. Suffolk, was in T 10.17 command of the King's forces in Britanny in 1345, where he thrice I. 1447. defeated Charles of Blois, styled Duke of Britanny, taking him in 1346 a prisoner to London. He was consequently appointed Capt. Gen. to the King in Britanny. He was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LORD DAGWORTH), 13 Nov. (1347), 21 lid. Ill, to 14 Feb. (1348), 22 Ed. III. He m. Eleanor, widow of James (Butler), Earl of Ormonde [I.], da. of Humphrey fBoHUN), Earl of Hereford, by Lady Elizabeth Plantagf.xet, da. of Kino Edward I. Lie. from Bp. of Winton, 24 Jan. 1343/4, to marry in the chapel of her manor of La Vacherie in Cranley, Surrey. He was slain in Britanny 1359. His widow d. 1363. II. 1352, 2. Sir Nicholas Dagworth [Lord Dagworth?] s. and h. to who never had summons to Pari, as a Baron. In 1366 he gained a 1401. great victory over the French, at An jou. Being in favour with King Richard II, he was in 1388 imprisoned as an " evil Councellor," but next year was sent on an embassy to France. He m. Eleanor da. of Walter, sister and coheir of Sir John Rosall of Shropshire. He d. s.p. 1401 and was 6m 1 . at Blickling, co. I 1 Gl 8 James Ramsay o£ the same, and elder br. of John, Earl of Holder - ness, the well known favourite of Kiug James I, sue. his father before 15S0, was, 19 Aug. 1601, served heir to (his grandfather's grandfather) Sir Alexander Ramsay of Dalhousie, was knighted before 1603 ; was M.P. for co. Kincardine, 1617 ; had the Barony of Dalhousie, on his own resignation, aud the Barony of Melrose, on the resignation of his said brother (who on 25 Aug. 1615 had been cr. Viscount of Haddington and Lord of Melrose [S.]), erected into a free Barony, and was cr. a Lord of Pari, by charter 25 Aug. 1618, as LORD RAMSAY OF MELROSE [S.] to him his heirs male and successors in the Barony. By letters under the great seal 5 Jany. 1619, this title was changed and that of LORD RAMSAY OF DALHOUSIE, substituted to him and his heirs male " omni tempore ajfuturo." He m. firstly, before 1608, Margaret, da. and h. of Sir George Douglas of Helenhill, br. of William, Earl of Mortjn |S.] She was living 12 Sept. 1615. He m. secondly, Margarot Kerr. He d. 1629. RAMSAY OF ICERINGTOUN [S.] He was Sheriff co. Edinburgh, 24 Oct. 1646, and was fined £1,500 by Cromwell's Act of Grace, 12 April 1654. He m. firstly, Margaret, 1st da. of David (Carnegt), 1st Earl of Southesk [S.], by Margaret, da. of Sir David Lindsay of Edzell. She d. 1661. He m. secondly, Jocosa, widow of Lyster Blunt, da. of Sir Alau ArsLKY, by his second wife Anne, da. and h. of Sir Peter Carew. She d. 28 April 1663, aud was bur. in the Savoy Church, Midx. He d. 11 Feb. 1674. ( a ) Thomasine, his only surv. sister and h. m. William (Furnival), Lord Furnival, who d. 1383, leaving a da. aud h., Joaue, who to. Thomas (Nevill), Lord Furnival, 1383-1406. With this barony, any right to the Barony of Dagworth would devolve.
