[S.]6 May 1471 underthedesignationof "Doi»inu3rfcS(o6/ta(/,"wasSenesc-.ilof Strathern, 20 March 1473/4 ; was one of the Embassy to England 1483-84 ; and was, 29 Jan. 1487/8, cr. LOKD DRUMMOND [S.] (<'). He joined the party against James III [S.J, and sat in the first pari, of James IV [S.J, 6 Oct. 1488. fie defeated the insurgent Earl of Lennox at Tillymoss, in 1489. P.O. and Justiciary [S.] ; Constable of Stirling Castle ; one of the Embassy to treat with the English 1495, 1511 and 1513 ; was im- prisoned by the Regent Albany, 16 July 1515 to 23 Nov. 1516, on the charge of striking Lyon Herald, was forfeited, but was restored in 1516. He jn. Elizabeth, da. of Alexander (Lindsay), 4th Earl of Crawford [S], by Marjory, da. of bir David Dunbab. He d. 1519 at Drummond Castle, aged 81 (*). ( c ) The family of Drummond is (naturally enough) one of the twelve given in Drammond's " Noble British Families," being, perhaps, one of the most profusely illustrated in that magnificent series. See vol. i, p. 77, note " a," sub. " Alvauley." There have also been several histories of this distinguished family, e.g., one by D. Malcolm, 1808, 8vo ; another by the Hon. W. Drummond, ed. by D. Laing, 1831, 4to ; &c. ( d ) " Johannes Drummond de Cargill, effectus fuit dominus Parliament!, et, in futurum, nominandus Dominus Drummond." (°) Of his six daughters the most noted was Margaret, mistress to King James IV [S.J, who was poisoned with her sisters, Sybylla Drummond, and Euphemia, wife of John, Lord Fleming, in 1501, all 3 being bur. at Dunblane. Of the other three— Annabella m. William (Graham) 1st Earl of Montrose [S.] ; Beatrix m. James (Hamilton) 1st Earl of Arrau [S.J, while Elizabeth m. George Douglas, Master of Angus, and was mother of Archibald, 6th Earl of Angus [S.], whose da and h., Margaret, Countess of Lennox [S.J, was mother of Henry (Stuart), Lord Darnley, King Consort of Scotland, the Father of King Jamea- I, and ancestor of every succeeding monarch.
