William-Frederick Wyndhaji, by his first wife Frances Mary Habford, illegit. da. of Frederick (Calvert), 7th Baron Baltimore [I.], which William Frederick was 4th and yst. br. of the late Earl and d. 11 Feb. 1828, aged 65. He was b. 30 Aug. 17S5 ; was Capt. E.N. ; sometime (1811) in command of the Hawke sloop. He inherited, in 1837, Orchard Wyndham and other of the estates of the Wyndhani family co. Somerset and Devon. He m, 14 Nov. 1820, at Eton College Chapel, Jane, 3d da. of the Hev. William Roberts, Vj'cb Provost of Eton College. He d. s.p. at Silverton Park, Devon, 2 April 1815, in his 60th year, when all his honours became extinct. Will pr. Oct. 1845. His widow, who was 4. at Eton College, d 18 Dec. 1S76, in her 78th year at Orchard Wyndham, Somerset. ELAND. i.e., " Saville of Eland, co. Coll.), 15 May 1766 ; Fellow, 1767 ; B.A., 1770 ; M.A., 1773. He was M.P. for Weobley, 1783-96, and for Boroughbridge, 1796-99. Barrister (Mid. Temple) 1776; King's Counsel, 1783 ; Chancellor of Durham, 1787 ; Solicitor Gen. 1788-93 (supporting the Government measures consequent on the King's illness), being knighted 27 June 1788 ; Attorney Gen. 1793-99, being, in 1799, made P.C., and Lord Ch. Justice of the Commons Pleas and, on 18 July 1799, cr. BARON ELDON, of Eldon,( a ) co. Durham. Two years subsequently he was, 14 April 1801, made Lobd High Chancellor, which office, with an interval of 14 months (7 Feb. 1806 to 1 April 1807), he retaiued above a quarter of a century, till 30 April 1S27. (when young, it being a run-away ( a ) The estate of Eldou in the south part of Durham was purchased in 1792 for £22,000, the whole of its rental being devoted for many years to its improvement ; that of Encombe (the title of the peerage of 1821), co. Doi-set was purchased in 1807. ( b ) This was one of the " Coronation " peerages of which sec a list, vol. ii, p. 351, note "d" sub Conyngham." The Lord Chancellor's eldest br., Sir William Scott, Judge of the Admiralty, was raised to the Peerage at the same time as Barou Stowell.
